Youths Filmed Wheelies for TikTok, Face Penalties

2 young men have been penalized after filming themselves performing wheelies on motorcycles and posting the videos on TikTok to attract views.

Police in Tien Hai Commune said on July 3 they had identified a group of youths who committed serious traffic violations on Nguyen Trung Khuyen Street.

The case came to light after a TikTok video showing several riders traveling on one wheel went viral, sparking public concern over road safety.

Investigators identified the accounts that uploaded the footage as belonging to N.Q.H., 16, and T.M.D., 19, both residents of Tien Hai Commune.

Police said H. was the rider who performed the wheelies on both an electric motorcycle and a gasoline-powered motorcycle.

Authorities cited H. for multiple violations, including riding on one wheel, operating a motorcycle without a left rear-view mirror, and driving a motorcycle with an engine capacity above 50cc despite being under the legal age.

The motorcycle used in the stunt was confiscated.

Police also fined T.M.D. 9 million Vietnamese dong for allowing a person who was not legally qualified to operate the motorcycle.

During questioning, both admitted they recorded the videos to show off and gain attention on social media. They said they did not fully understand the dangers of their actions.

Police have worked with the pair’s families and school to provide safety education and ordered T.M.D. to remove the video from TikTok.
