A man in Vietnam’s Đắk Lắk province has been arrested after allegedly asking a motorcyclist for a ride, assaulting him, and stealing his motorcycle before pawning it for cash.
Lê Quang Trường, 20, was taken into custody by police in Đắk Lắk on July 28 on robbery charges.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on the evening of July 21, when a 20-year-old man, identified only by his surname Trần, was riding his motorcycle along a rural road in Dur Kmăl Commune.
Trường asked him for a ride, Vietnamese detectives and investigators.
Although the victim declined, saying he was almost home, Trường allegedly climbed onto the motorcycle anyway, forced the rider to move to the back seat, and took control of the vehicle.
After traveling a short distance, Trường allegedly threatened the victim, punched him in the face, causing him to fall onto the road, then fled with the motorcycle.
During questioning, Trường admitted pawning the stolen motorcycle for VND 3 million (about US$115) and spending the money on personal expenses.
