Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested Tran Chi Thien, 30, from Can Tho Province, for alleged theft.
Investigators believe he was responsible for a series of break-ins targeting boarding houses across the city.
According to police, a resident reported on April 17 that a thief had entered a rented room and stolen a mobile phone.
Authorities immediately launched an investigation and began tracking the suspect.
Just one day later, officers identified Tran Chi Thien as the alleged offender. At the time, he had been staying in the area for only five days.
During questioning, Thien admitted that financial difficulties had motivated him to commit the thefts. He allegedly targeted boarding houses and took advantage of residents’ negligence to steal valuables.
A search of the suspect’s residence led to the seizure of eight mobile phones and a motorcycle, which investigators identified as stolen property from a previous case.
Further investigation revealed that Thien may have been involved in more than ten additional theft cases at boarding houses in Ho Chi Minh City and nearby areas.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing legal proceedings in accordance with Vietnamese law.
