Nguyen Thanh Hoai, 27 years old, residing in Hue city, Vietnam was detained by Cu M’gar District Police for fraudulent appropriation of property, Vietnamese detectives.
According to the investigation, in December 2023, Hoai knew a person in Cu M’gar district and knew that this person’s younger brother was being detained for intentionally causing injury.

Nguyen Thanh Hoai created virtual Facebook and Zalo accounts, used this leader’s picture as a profile picture, then made friends and texted the defendant’s family members.
Thinking the person texting them was a real leader, the defendant’s family believed they could ask for help.
In nearly 2 months, they gave Hoai a total of 145 million VND 5 times.
Hoai continued to ask the defendant’s family members to give him another 60 million VND.
Suspicious of being cheated, the suspect’s family reported to the police.
On February 21, 2024, when Hoai was receiving 59 million VND from the victim, the police caught him red-handed.
