Police in Quang Tri Province have caught a woman allegedly transporting a large quantity of illegal fireworks using a hired taxi, private investigator in Vietnam.
The suspect was apprehended during a coordinated operation conducted by multiple law enforcement units along National Highway 9.
According to authorities, at around 4:30 p.m. on June 17, officers from the Traffic Police Division, Economic Police Division, Khe Sanh Commune Police, and Lao Bao Commune Police jointly stopped a taxi traveling through Luong Le Village in Khe Sanh Commune. During the inspection, police discovered dozens of boxes suspected to contain explosive fireworks.
The woman identified as Nguyen Thi Nhung, 50, from Cam Lo Commune, Quang Tri Province, was found in possession of the shipment. Investigators seized 84 boxes of fireworks believed to have been manufactured abroad.
During initial questioning, Nhung allegedly admitted that the goods were explosive fireworks and said she had agreed to transport them in exchange for payment.
Authorities are continuing to verify the origin of the shipment and determine the individuals involved in organizing the transportation.
The fireworks were being carried in a taxi driven by a local driver from Cam Lo Commune. According to police, the driver stated that he was unaware the cargo consisted of illegal fireworks and had simply been hired to provide transportation services.
All seized items have been taken into custody as evidence. Investigators are currently expanding the case to identify the suppliers and intended recipients of the shipment, as well as any potential connections to larger smuggling or distribution networks.
Vietnamese law strictly prohibits the unauthorized transportation, storage, and trade of explosive fireworks.
Individuals found violating these regulations may face administrative penalties or criminal prosecution depending on the quantity involved and the seriousness of the offense.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue gathering evidence and pursuing all leads related to the case.
