Slaughterhouse owner prosecuted for slaughtering sick pigs

During the inspection, the authorities of Van An commune, Nghe An, discovered that Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mai’s slaughterhouse had many violations of food safety.

Mrs. Mai slaughtered pigs at an unauthorized location, slaughtered them without proper safety measures, and used pork suspected of being infected with the disease to store and prepare for consumption.

At the scene, the authorities seized about 286 kg of meat from two pigs and 98.5 kg of meat in the freezer, all without quarantine stamps.

Test results showed that the meat was positive for African swine fever virus, Vietnam detective service agency.

The above behavior not only violated food safety regulations but also threatened public health.

Nghe An provincial Police have initiated a case and prosecuted Mrs. Mai for violating food safety and hygiene.

This is the first case in Nghe An to criminally prosecute the act of bringing pork infected with African swine fever to the market.

The authorities affirm the strictness of the law and the determination to protect the health of consumers.
