On August 6, 2025, Da Nang city police took into custody Nguyen Thanh Phuc for impersonating a police officer to commit fraud, Danang detectives.
Previously, Phuc befriended Mr. N.Đ.H via Zalo, using the account name “Nguyen Tran Dai An” and claiming to be a newly assigned police officer in the area.
To build trust, Phuc rented a room at Mr. H’s boarding house and kept in frequent contact.
Knowing that Mr. H was involved in a civil dispute, Phuc created a story about being able to “resolve the matter” and requested an upfront payment of 180 million VND, which Mr. H transferred.
Phuc asked for an additional 500 million VND, raising Mr. H’s suspicion. He reported the incident to the local police.
Danang detective, the Hoa Khanh ward police quickly verified the information and summoned Phuc.
At the station, he admitted to the fraudulent scheme. Investigators also found that Phuc had previously forged land ownership documents to borrow 600 million VND from another individual.
The case is now under further investigation by the Da Nang city police.
Authorities warn the public to remain vigilant against individuals impersonating officials on social media and not to transfer money without proper identity verification.
